TERRO Liquid Ant Baits

Ants can be a problem anywhere – in the home, at work and everywhere in between. To kill common household ants, place TERRO Liquid Ant Baits in areas where they attract foraging ants that take the bait back to the nest. As the bait circulates through the colony, it kills the ants you see and the ones you don’t. The new and improved snap-off tab makes the stations easy to use. To open the bait, hold the station vertically and twist the tab. This opens up the station and allows ants to access the bait. Place the entire station on a flat surface, keeping the ant bait inside the station. Plus, the closed bait stations prevent the bait from drying out to provide the ants with a continuous supply of liquid, day and night. Note: complete control may take up to two weeks.

How Liquid Ant Bait Works

Since this is a bait, initially you will see more ants – but don’t worry, this is a good thing. Why? As ants forage for food, they are easily attracted to the sweet, sugary liquid inside the bait stations. After finding the bait, worker ants consume it and leave behind a pheromone trail leading back to the colony. This trail lets other worker ants know where the newly discovered food supply is. This is why you will see more ants in the beginning.

Meanwhile, the active ingredient, Borax, is slowly interfering with the ant’s digestive system, ultimately killing it, but leaving enough time for the ant to go back and share the dose with the rest of the colony. This slow kill is necessary so that foraging ants can make several trips to the bait. The communal nature of an ant colony allows the bait to be spread to hundreds, if not thousands, of individual ants.

How to Use Liquid Ant Baits

TERRO Liquid Ant Baits are very easy to use. Before placing the bait stations, be sure to remove other sources of food, such as crumbs, sugar and grease spots to prevent attracting ants elsewhere. Do not place bait where you’ve already sprayed insecticides, as the pests may avoid the bait stations.

  1. Hold the bait station firmly with bait pack tab facing up. Break off the tab being careful not to spill the bait.
  2. Place the bait station label side up on a flat surface near signs of ants. Place additional bait stations anywhere they may enter your home. For best results, use all bait stations to ensure a sufficient supply for the ants.
  3. Monitor placements regularly, but do not interfere with the pests or bait stations. Replace when bait is depleted. Complete control may take up to two weeks.
  4. Once ants are controlled, replace the baits every 3 months to keep them from returning.

I was sick of ants coming into my house and finding my crumbs. I deployed the Terro liquid ant baits on a Saturday night. By Sunday, a steady trail of ants were coming and going from the ant trap. Clearly, word got out and the ants were excited to get everything back to their homes. I watched as they worked tirelessly to deliver sweet poison to their family back home. I watched and realized how many ants would die. Every time I glanced at the ants marching to and fro from the trap, I thought of how doomed their food scavenging mission was. I thought of their masses dying slow deaths - their old and their young alike. Yes, I was the evil super villain that was destined to eradicate their entire colony. By Tuesday, there were no more ants. Their blood is on my hands. With great power comes great responsibility. I am worse than Thanos. With the snap of the top of a Terro ant bait unit, I eradicated countless ant lives.

Immensely effective. 5/5 Stars. Obsessed with my newly found villain role and now have a sick hope of attracting a scavenging straggler from another colony so I can do it all over again.

UPDATE:
Have not seen one single ant in my house since my last post. A good product for killing these sweet loving ants.
ORIGINAL POST:
Before buying this I started with a little sugar and boric acid (8 to 1) mix on the floor to find out if "my" ants were after sweets or fat and where the trail led to so I could place the bait close to their entry point. They went after the sugar so I bought the Terro.

These ants are in the sweet eating phase and they just swarmed this stuff for about 5 days. After that, there seemed to be fewer and fewer until after about 2 weeks they were all gone. If you have, or think you have, a large colony be sure to get plenty and keep it fresh. I started with one pack but, added a second a couple days later and a third about 3 days after that so they had plenty of fresh goo.

Someone said "...this stuff is very sticky..." and, I can attest to that! I put it on a piece of aluminum foil with one edge held down with painter''s tape so they had easy access and I had easy clean up. The Terro did the rest. I haven''t seen an ant on my kitchen sink for well over three weeks and, living in, currently very hot, Southern California, which is one giant ant hill, at a time when they seem to like to come in looking for water and cool air, that''s wonderful.

I know; this is going to really affect my Karma and I will probably be reincarnated as an ant. Also, my wife gives me sideways glances because of that sinister little laugh but, I just hate these little buggers for some reason and absolutely enjoy destroying large populations of them. Does that make me a bad person?

I apparently don''t live in a house. I live in a giant block of Swiss cheese. We''ve been battling an intermittent ant problem ever since we moved in. The first one we managed to combat with gap filler, but I think there must have been an offshoot of that colony that moved and set up shop underneath the edge of my carpet where it meets the kitchen tile. One morning I walked into my kitchen to find a full-on ant orgy in progress in front of my fridge. It was downright Bacchanalian and scarred me for life. I''m glad my children weren''t witness to such debauchery.

I thought I found another gap where they might have been getting in, so I plugged it with more expanding foam, and the problem seem to go away for a bit, but they were just laying low, formulating their next plan of attack. Ants started trickling out from beneath the carpet edge again, only this time I was done with that namby pamby gap filler. It was time to break out the big guns. I Googled "Best Ant Bait" and the first thing it pulled up was this product page for the Terro (which is only one "r" short of Terror--coincidence? I think not). I only needed to read a few of the reviews and I was convinced. I grabbed a box from a local hardware store (sorry, Amazon, even with Prime shipping, my problem was far too vexing to wait even one more hour), set them in all the strategic rendezvous points. Then I waited. It took a couple hours. And then the purge began . . .

I''ve used other ant baits before to limited success. Most just don''t do a very good job at attracting the critters. It''s like they''re hip to the Raid jive. But the other reviews about this product do not lie. Never in my life have I seen the crack frenzy that soon began, when literally hundreds of ants started pouring into these traps. I could see them writhing around in orgasmic euphoria. I could hear them laughing and clinking their glasses and making awkward late night sexual propositions with complete strangers. It would be like if a giant chocolate cheesecake had fallen out of the sky right in front of me. I would probably act similarly, rolling around in it, gorging myself silly, completely unaware that God decided to save himself the trouble of flooding the planet to wipe out the human vermin and instead decided to rain down poison disguised as dessert. Noah 2.0, I am not.

Admittedly, I do feel a bit like God right now. It''s been fun watching this microcosm of the apocalypse unfold with an aloof Mona Lisa grin on my face. I am a terrible God, but I am benevolent. These creatures died thinking they were having the best day of their lives, and that''s better than most of us get in this crazy world.

Thank you, Terro. You are now my #1 choice for ant genocide.

UPDATE: 24 hours later -- Only a few stragglers remain. They''re staggering around helplessly, their bodies undoubtedly full of their dead, poisoned comrades. The bait traps that were once full of ants are now empty. I don''t care to imagine what happened to all of them, but since I''m a writer, I probably will. I saw a few ants in my downstairs bathroom and set one of the traps in there. A few ants became a few hundred. More death throes are commencing. LOOK ON MY WORKS, YE MIGHTY, AND DESPAIR!

Ants were coming and eating the gel, and some ants died inside of the bait, but we still had ants all summer long. I kept changing the bites, and ants kept coming. The only good thing is that the bait helped keeping ants in one area, and not spreading too much all over. Need to find another solution for the next year. These baits are not working anymore.

My story is a sad tale to tell. For weeks I had been battling these fire ants that seemed to invade my room. At the beginning they were just inside my closet. Slowly but surely, they continued their onslaught and invaded my dirty laundry basket... and finally, my bed. I got bit quite ferociously by these demonic ants. I asked my apartment complex to spray. They did... It did not work. The ants now went into the kitchen and up to my brother''s room. That is when I said ENOUGH. I went to the only place I could get help. AMAZON DOT COM! I found the reviews of this product quite interesting and decided I would give it a go. I couldn''t wait, so I even paid for the $4 one day shipping even though I have Amazon Prime. Surely enough, the next day, trumpets sounded, angels came down from heaven while light shined on my package of hope and wonder.

I got my Terro Liquid Ant baits and placed them on ant trails... Grabbed a bag of chips, and set my watch while I committed my crime. After a couple minutes, I saw one ant come in and start sucking at the drops. I laughed maniacally while enjoying my evil doing. After about 30 minutes, they were all over the bait. Then I set 4 more all over my apartment... I saw the difference right away! The ants were disappearing! I was so happy... until it hit me... I had just committed genocide against this poor colony of ants. I found that I missed their company at night on my bed, their company when I cooked, did a #2, dressed up, etc... I couldn''t believe I had just killed them all. I kept picturing them eating happily, then having a stomach ache, then feeling their insides turn inside out and slowly die. All of those poor tiny creatures, gone! Soon, the atrocity of my crime was too much on my shoulders. Alcohol was my salvation, one drink turned into one bottle, then bottles, then just plain pain! My life has never been the same afterwards.... Anyways, going back to the review of this product. If you are looking to wreck havoc, mayhem, pain and misery on a colony on ants, then this product will work great for you! It might work too well...

I''ve been having carpenter ants appear all over my house recently, and I knew it was time to do something about it. I didn''t want to continue buying Raid spray cans because those only kill ants on contact. Thus, you still have the ant colony (or colonies) to deal with since they nest somewhere in your house where you can''t reach or see. I conducted research online, came across many reviews, and read articles about these Terro products to which I''ve heard lots of good things about. After some consideration, I decided to purchase their product with hopes that this will eliminate the ant infestation. On the first day, I had placed one bait station by the kitchen walls with nothing surrounding it, and after a few hours, ants had already began approaching the bait station. I left the bait station in its place overnight and by the next morning I had gone to check how many ants I have attracted to the bait. There were NUMEROUS ants! I had even followed their trail to find the entrance/hole from where they began coming through. As days pass by however, none of the ants seem to disappear. As a matter of fact, it seemed that more ants have appeared rather. I then figured it was time to place more ant bait stations nearby (as seen in the photo); also since the first bait station probably doesn''t have much bait left too. So far it''s been a week and a half, and the same amount of ants (to what it appears like) are still roaming around, and it does not seem like the amount of ants have decreased at all. I had even bought the liquid drop baits too, but that''s for another review. I am starting to think that I am practically giving these ants free food instead of actually eliminating them unfortunately. I had even recently read on a review that Terro had likely changed up their formula a bit, so perhaps that''s why it seems like this stuff isn''t working, but did for others (back when the formula wasn''t changed as a likely case). I had read that it may take up to two weeks to completely eliminate and control the infestation(s), so I''m still waiting, but so far, I am a little disappointed in this as I expected to see less ants by the day, not more. I will update by the next week.

UPDATE (08/11/18): Well unfortunately, I now go from a 2-star rating to a 1-star rating. I placed a 2-star rating first because I wasn''t happy about the results I was seeing so far in the first week, but the box states to wait for 2 weeks to see complete control. To this day (exactly 2 weeks after product was delivered) I still manage to have numerous ants in my house. I have literally used 2 boxes (12 bait stations) throughout the days. I had replaced some bait stations and threw the first ones I''ve used in the trash because after a few days, the ants didn''t seem to go inside the stations any longer, so I figured I just had to use new fresh ones. The box states (regarding controlling and eliminating ants) that "complete control may take up to two weeks", however, it doesn''t seem like the ants have numbered down because there''s still lots of them coming in and out. I really thought this would help me with my ant infestation, but I might just try to find another solution to wipe out their colony/nest.

I bought both the indoor and outdoor varieties of these - I live in Florida and my home and home office space (which is detached) both had problems with these obnoxious tiny, fast-moving ants. They sting, making it really annoying to be at my keyboard and suddenly get bitten all over my hands and arms.

There''s some important things to remember when using the Terro Liquid Ant Baits.

First, yes, it does take days, and for me I left these out for weeks.
Second, I looked at where the ants were coming and going and put this along their path in a place that my pets would not be able to get into, just to be safe. If you have small children, definitely be extremely careful as the liquid looks like honey.
Third, it''s really annoying that it doesn''t *look like* the ants are taking the bait--I kept wanting to yell at them like a drill sergeant and shoo them into the packet...but rest assured, eventually they do. And eventually, they go away.
Fourth and last--once the ants are gone, if you really want to minimize the chance of a return infestation, I leave these out and I also wipe down *everything* in the house that I can. In my home office that meant wiping down the underside of my desk, every inch of my keyboard tray, the floor, etc. Because ants lay down trails that other ants can follow. You want to wipe those out so the little jerks have to start all over if they get near your home. With luck, they''ll get confused and annoyed and go away, but keep in mind, I was really fastidious about keeping food and drink out of the home office and they hung around just the same.

My ants came back this year. Within a few days of laying these out again, they were gone once more. Highly recommended, but patience is a virtue.

At first many ants came to eat this. They really like this liquid. No doubt about that. We waited patiently for 7-8 days (although it should actually work within 48 hours). Only a few ants died by drowing in the liquid. Apart from that ant activity was not reduced, ants were not getting killed. I felt like I had given them food for a week! Then i had to use aerosol to kill all of them. Avoid this product if you are in India.

Update: So it’s been a week. The bait stations are still there. But ants are returning. Even though it was effective to some extent, INR 1200 for 6 bait stations when they are effective only for 2-3 days, is not worth it. Original review: The product works but you have to place it in the right spots. I realized that there were 3 different species of ants in my apartment. The colonies were in the cracks behind kitchen tiles, lines of electrical wires in the wall and some behind bathroom sink fitting. The ghost ants attacked the bait within an hour after I placed it next to their trail in the evening. At peak I saw hundreds of ants visiting and leaving bait station within couple of minutes. This continued overnight and then by following evening the count reduced to 1 any per hour and eventually within 30 hours I could see any ants. For red ants and another species that was so dumb that they couldn’t find the entry to the bait on day 1, I had to soak an ear bud and leave it at the opening of the bait station. So next day I got rid of these ants as well. The liquid had hardly depreciated in the pods so I placed a pod (with some liquid dripping outside the pod on cotton) in the balcony close to plants. There was a colony there that I didn’t know about, they showed up in 5 hours and disappeared the following day. So I had to pick and place the bait stations around the house each day but it fit help me a lot. Some local pest control service had failed to get rid of these ants because they used a poison that worked only on contact. At about 1200 rupees for a box of 6 bait stations I think the product is expensive but it definitely worked for me. They should have one option to buy a couple of bait stations for less. I did not even open the last 2 pods. So I think if the impact is in one room only people can use a pod after every 2-3 months and that will be a practical way to use it. If you have multiple ant colonies in different rooms then yes it will help to open 2 pods and see if more are needed. Also I notice that it may work differently for different species of ants. By brother, who lives in the next building used one of my open bait stations in his kitchen. He had another species of bigger size (4 mm but definitely bulky looking) ants that died in the bait station itself. In my home, the bait station was clean as these smaller ants had died hopefully peacefully back in their colonies.
